Community
The village of Pocahontas is located just 36 miles east of St Louis on Interstate 70 at exit 36. Making the drive to St Louis metro and many Metro East destinations an easy commute. We are the first visible stop for travelers between Granite City and Vandalia, making us a welcome stop for cross-country travelers at our restaurants, motels, service stations, and truck stops. Our antique shops and boutiques are famous statewide.
Pocahontas has 74 acres of commercial properties in a TIF district with easy access and visibility from Interstate 70. In addition to several well-maintained homes for sale, Pocahontas has a subdivision with 27 available lots starting in the mid-20s.
Schools
Our grade school includes pre-K through 8th grade, with high school students attending Bond County Community Unit 2 in Greenville. According to the Illinois Report card, the Pocahontas Elementary School has an enrollment of 211 students and an attendance rate of 94%. However, the real advantage of a small school is that everyone on the staff, from the principal down to the custodians, knows all the children by name.
City Park
Our beautifully maintained 30-acre park has three ball diamonds, two fishing lakes, and three picnic pavilions that can be reserved for groups to enjoy a quiet day in a beautiful setting. Our Uptown Square Park has our Veterans’ Memorial and a Kiosk highlighting our history on the National Road.
Small Town Charm
Pocahontas has all the advantages of small-town living while being close to important amenities like McDonald's and Walmart. A small town is a place where it takes a long time to take a walk because everyone wants you to stop and talk. If you get in trouble at school, your parents know about it before you make it home. Pocahontas is where city folks can’t find anything to do, and the locals are always busy at grade school basketball games, little league games, or community functions.
